MY WEDDING ALBUM

It only took me 3.5 years and 4 rough drafts of my wedding album to get it done.  Even then, I kind of cheated.  The photographers reading this will understand how you can make a beautiful album for one of your clients with no problem and have it match their style and personality, but how when it comes to yourself, you almost have too many ideas that your brain overloads and explodes and then you just don't want to touch it anymore.  Any guess what happened with me?

You are right, my brain exploded.

How did I cheat?  I got my album through La Vie! This album company does NOT let you design the album.  You get to pick the images you want and that's it. The rest is up to them.  No input! As in ZERO.  That was super scary to me, but every sample I've seen has been so amazing and magical (not to mention expensive) that it took me time to warm up to the idea.

After 4 drafts that never went to print and space on my harddrive begging to be had, I finally decided to do it.  Mike saw the samples at WPPI with me and agreed that even though they are expensive, they are well worth the cost.  I sent my images in, fingers crossed, hoping that I would love it.

No real surprise here, but I LOVE it.  I actually cried when I got it.  Everything about it is so perfect and I seriously can't find anything about it I would change.  The craftmanship is insane. The different paper and inlays and folds just boggle our minds.  It is everything I knew I wanted but didn't know I wanted at the same time.  I love it, cherish it, and just couldn't be more thrilled.

Some photographer friends asked for a video, so Mike put this together for me.  He knew he wanted music in the background and wouldn't you know, he picked our first dance song.  Such a sweetie to me.

So if you wonder what I personally chose for a wedding album here it is! Plus you can kind of see what my wedding looked like.

If you are a client and are intersted in this album, while it is not part of my regular offerings, I'm more than happy to share the love. Just let me know and I can get you an estimate.

A MODERN FAIRYTALE: LISA & DEAN'S ALBUM

A friend and I were just discussing personal style and how it intertwines with art.  More specifically, how is my art influenced by my personal style.  After a nice discussion and our goodbyes had been said, I was still thinking on this.

I think that what I love in life definitely shows up in my photography. I love relationships and I think that all kinds of them work their way into documenting your wedding day.   The love between family that is so indescribable. The child that makes you giggle out loud and wish you were 4 again.  The girlfriend that knows that you like the back of her hand. How after seeing the person you are marrying, you are almost floating off the ground.   The sly glance that makes your heart race.  The whisper in your ear while you are dancing with your new partner. I love it all.

I know my style. I'm a modern romantic with a sassy side.  I love all things "fierce" and enjoy life's humor.  I like photographs one of two ways: bright, clean, and bold or tender, passionate and romantic.  I think there is a balance to the both of them and a line to walk between the posey-posed portraits and spontaneous photojournalism. I don't think a wedding is complete without a healthy dose of each shooting style.

I had a particularly amazing wedding earlier this year that allowed me to be me... To shoot they way I like to.  To shoot in my "sweet spot."  I'd like to share a few of the album spreads from Lisa & Dean's wedding.  They were fantastic to shoot and have quite a love story of their own.  It makes me really happy when the art from the wedding day can be put together in such a way that it feels like you are there all over again.... back inside your very own modern fairytale.

Stacy Cross: Gorgeous, gorgeous pictures and lovely lay-outs. Way to rock it, girl - and I agree - it´s so nice when we can really feel the space and time to shine at a wedding. :) (07/23/08, 03:09)

JIMMEE & JOSE'S WEDDING ALBUM

Here's a couple of my favorite pages from Jimmee and Jose's album.  They're going with the metallic pages, so this book is going to be AH-MAZ-ING.  I can't wait to see it in person!
